Origin and "Why" of the idea

The idea for "Sarbat Da Bhala-Goodness For All" originated from the teachings of Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak spoke about helping (Bhala) everyone( Sarbat) without desiring any return. "Sarbat Da Bhala-Goodness For All" is asking you to donate volunteer hour in return of the goodness done to you.

Why should we connect through "Sarbat Da Bhala-Goodness For All"?

We all have goodness inside us in varying degrees. It is evident from the fact, that if someone has fallen down we will extend our hand to lift him up. That is an act of goodness and kindness. We humans are all hardwired for it. For example, if someone is drowning and you have access to a rope with a life preserver, will you not throw it to him without knowing the person?

Let's imagine that you are on your way to your work and are getting late and you encounter a fallen man. You may or may not extend an helping hand because your own interest has taken priority. The goodness in you has been suppressed by a work that is more important to you. Many times we can not do goodness because either some other work has to be prioritized or else we might think that " I should not get involved". If the circumstances were different then we might have done the act of goodness, in such cases.

"Sarbat Da Bhala-Goodness For All" is attempting to collect these drops of goodness in a pot and then disburse it when the timing is right for both the receiver and the giver.
